Plan 9 From Outer Space
"Greetings my friends! We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives! ...". With these immortal words, so begins perhaps the most infamous crap film ever made. Originally titled "Grave Robbers From Outer Space", the plot (what there is of it) centres around extraterrestrial beings who are seeking to stop humanity from creating a doomsday weapon that would destroy the universe. To achieve this, the aliens implement "Plan 9", a scheme to resurrect the Earth's dead and, in doing so, cause chaos in order to get the planet's attention.
From the same twisted mind that brought you such treats as "Glen or Glenda", "Bride of the Monster" and "Jail Bait", "Plan 9..." features only 20 minutes worth of footage of its star Bela Lugosi, shot before the actor's death in 1956, with the actual storyline and screenplay written afterwards. For notoriously driven director Ed Wood, this was no obstacle...the obvious solution was to hire his wife's chiropractor as a stand-in, on the basis that he had a similar hairline to the deceased horror legend. The fact that the two men were of different heights and bore no other physical resemblance was circumnavigated by having the fortuituous foot specialist hold his cape in front of his face throughout the entire film.
Join us for a Xmas-themed screening of this bad movie masterpiece and see for yourself why Wood was posthumously awarded the title of Worst Director of All Time! Stare in disbelief at the cardboard props and wooden acting! Fall in love with the legendary John "Bunny" Breckinridge who, in his only film role as "The Ruler, sports very visible mascara and lipstick, constantly rolls his eyes and mugs for the camera. Chortle at classic lines such as "One thing's sure: Inspector Clay's dead...murdered...and somebody's responsible!". Munch on mince pies and other Yuletide snacks, and maybe even win a prize in our competition! You can't call yourself a real crap film fan until you've seen "Plan 9 From Outer Space", and remember, "Future events such as these will affect you in the future"...so can you afford to miss it?!
